wow, that looks pretty similar to ubuntu's logo. it isn't exactly the same, but its close, if someone made a logo that was similar to like the apple logo, or one of the many windows flags, they would be sued into bankruptcy so fast they wouldnt even know what hit them.

Okay, so here's the HMR Logo, here is the Ubuntu Trademark Policy and here are all the Official Ubuntu Logo's. I'd say read their policies, compare logos and then decide.

Looking at the www.ipo.gov.uk website, neither Canonical or the HMR group actually have registered that particular logo. And this means that both are allowed to use it.

here's what I know so far :

1. Ubuntu :
- Ubuntu community was launched in October 2004,
- Ubuntu.com has been online since 24 May 2004 (source alexa.com)
so ubuntu, at least, use their logo since 2004.

2. hmrgroup :
- established in 2002 (I don't know what logo they used back then and there's no guarantee they used the same logo as today since it's not uncommon for company to change their logo)
- no record of hmrgroup' online date in archive.org (it must be less than six months - since archive.org only provide archive six months after collection.

so there's still no exact time when did hmrgroup started use their logo. we still in dark here about who's first.

anyone knows about hmrgroup logo's history please step forward :)

just wanted to thank you, panji, for letting the community know about this. someone in my LoCo posted it in our irc channel.

to others: he probably didn't provide a link because he didn't want his url to show up in their logs as the referrer url. smart thing to do, to be honest. although...

you may experience a bit of an unintentional DDoS- i submitted this to slashdot. hope your bandwidth holds out! assuming it gets posted, anyways. if it does and you were trying to keep it below the radar (by circumventing the trackback).. i don't think that'll be possible now. but on the bright side, at least you'll get a LOT more readers!

the logo is JUUUUST different enough for them to scrape by in a copyright trial, but at the same time it's DEFINITELY close enough to the original to warrant a trial in the first place. i hope Canonical pursues this.
