WebHTTrack | Website Copier for Ubuntu

Posted by blognusantara | Friday, June 25, 2010

Back in the day of time-limited internet access, there was one tool that I relied most to get copy of whole websites and read it offline, and that tool was WinHTTrack, it was on Windows. What HTTrack does?
It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system.
Then today the need to download entire websites resurfaces, only this time I run Ubuntu. So I checked HTTrack site only to find a very pleasant surprise, it is available for Ubuntu too, and it is already listed in the repository, wow.
The difference is HTTrack for Ubuntu (not just Ubuntu actually it is available for Linux/Unix/BSD) called WebHTTrack and it is a web based application.

WebHTTrack runs on Chrome for Ubuntu

All you have to do is name the project, categorize it and type the url, as simple as that. But if you want to have more control you can open the option to tweak it more to your liking.
It simply works. Just open your Ubuntu Software Center to get it.

Posted by blognusantara | Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Are you looking for HDR Creation Software in Ubuntu? I recently tried 2 methods and they are :
  • Qtpfsgui, don't let the name makes you think that this is another command-line-driven head-ache-generator Linux software. As a matter a fact this software is very intuitive and easy to use. After installation, just run it and click the New HDR icon to bring up a HDR creation wizard that will lead you step by step to create your HDR photo. Easy...
It is available in Ubuntu repository, so fire up Ubuntu Software Center to get it.
  • with GIMP plugin, by installing this script your GIMP can instantly makes fake HDR look. Get the script here, the page is in Italian but the script is in English.
Copy the downloaded script to /home/username/.gimp-2.6/scripts/

Give it a try.
