How To Change Windows Key Logo to Ubuntu for Free

Posted by Panji Nushantara | Monday, November 09, 2009

Windows logo on the Super key in Ubuntu system is annoying, the good news is you can change it to Ubuntu logo for free, for US residents that is.
You can change the logo by applying a Ubuntu key sticker over it. For long-lasting result you may have to coat it with transparent (fingernail?) paint or for temporary solution you could use transparent cello tape.
How to get Ubuntu key stickers for free? Not just a Ubuntu sticker, you'll get 4 of them and 4 "Powered by Ubuntu" stickers, all for free. For US residents just send a self addressed stamped envelope to:
System76, Inc. (Free Stickers)
1582 S. Parker Rd. Ste. 310
Denver, Colorado 80231
These free stickers are provided by System76, who provides and supports Ubuntu pre-installed laptops, desktops, and servers.

Not in US? The free "Powered by Ubuntu" stickers also available in these countries (but somehow not the key stickers) :
  • Argentina
  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Peru
  • Serbia
  • Switzerland
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom
  • Venezuela
For complete address of each country go here.
Sadly my country is not in the list :(

    Hi,
The P.O. Box listed for the free stickers in Australia does not get checked. I sent a self addressed stamped envelope approx. 6 months ago & have not received anything.
I have heard other people within Australia are also having this issue. I can't imagine how full that P.O box in Lavington NSW must be by now.

    Mitch.

    @kermiac,
    thanks for your info.
in system76 site, it says "Thanks to the Ubuntu Australia Team!"
I am not sure, is that official Ubuntu Australian Team or a group of system76 volunteer.
I guess you can ask the official team first, if you still need the stickers.

"Windows logo on the Super key in Ubuntu system is annoying"

Well... not *that* annoying, is it? I mean... I don't even look down AT the keyboard when I use it, let alone feel annoyed by there being a windows logo on one of the keys. :-)

    @Victor :

for me it's like own a Toyota car with Honda logo. Nothing wrong with two brands, and the engine runs just fine, but somehow feels not quite right :)

ps : and I don't look at the keyboard while typing :D well maybe sometimes, to locate fn+ key combinations.

You know what would be good? I would love to have one of those keyboards where all keys are a tiny LCD screen. Then we could just make a little image of Ubuntu or Kubuntu or even our own face and put that on the super key! >:D If its configuration allowed for that of course. Although I would probably just turn off the keys completely and display them blank most of the time. I use an English layout with a Swedish keyboard most of the time, which can be confusing. I do this because programming was just simply made with the English layout in mind. :-)

Hi, I'm Linux user but not Ubuntu. Do you have any info where I can find "Tux the penguin" sticker logo for this Super Key?
