Posted by Panji Nushantara | Thursday, September 03, 2009

Looking for star constellations map software for Ubuntu? Stop looking, Ubuntu already listed it in its repository. It's Kstars that you're looking for.
What is Kstars ?
KStars is a desktop planetarium for KDE 4, depicting an accurate graphical simulation of the night sky, from any location on Earth, at any date and time. The display includes 130,000 stars, 13,000 deep-sky objects, all 8 planets, the Sun and Moon, and thousands of comets and asteroids.  It includes tools for astronomical calculations and can control telescopes and cameras.
If you have problem installing KStars on your Kubuntu and got error message that has something to do with indi something (like I did), try this method, it works for me.
  • uninstall Kstars and indi, if it was already installed,
  • add this PPA to your Software Sources ( open Synaptic then go to Settings -> Repositories -> 3rd Party Software):
    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/josh-noisymime/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
    then reload,
  • install Kstars again

source : launchpad

keyword : kstars, indi, error, fix, ubuntu
