Digsby : All in One IM Client for Linux (soon)

Posted by Panji Nushantara | Monday, August 03, 2009

My wife just downloaded and installed Digsby on her Windows laptop. It's an IM client that not just chat, but can handle email and works as social networking tool.
I know there's nothing new with Digsby as IM client that can handle multiple accounts and providers i.e AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber, and Facebook Chat Accounts, but I like how Digsby can update Facebook status and keep me up to date with my friends' status.
I've tried
Gwibber but all it does is update my status but not showing my friends'
status updates. Not that I am a stalker mind you and not that I care if one of them is contemplating some random cloud shape. But I have friends
that write stock market information and prediction as their statuses, "kaching"...
If you've been waiting for something like this too, then rejoice, Digsby for Linux is coming soon but don't ask me when. I left them with my email so I'll know when it does. And I'll update this blog as soon as it does.
If you know something like this that works under Ubuntu, let me know, please.
Mean while I'll try to install it with Wine...on next post...

Huh? Gwibber certainly does read and display both your Facebook and Twitter friends statuses.

    Really?
I have no problem with updating my facebook status with gwibber. but I can't see my friends' updates.

As you already know to acquire friends' status updates you must enter Friend's Status Feed URL in Gwibber setting (according to Gwibber setting wizard it's on the left-hand side in http://www.facebook.com/friends/ ), and I can not find that URL.
as far as I know, Facebook no longer provide that URL.

    CMIIW, please.

I never tried to connect to Facebook with the default version in 9.04, but the versions from the Gwibber PPA (0.9.2 and 1.0) both work very easily.

Just have to click the authorize button and it will open the confirmation in a browser. Maybe have to check "Receive messages" in the Facebook properties in Gwibber.

It has been "soon" since whenever. It's a mail trap.

    @ Kory,
thank you very much for your info. Now I use Gwibber 0.9.2 from gwibber ppa and it works like you said :)

I notice 0.9.2 doesn't ask for friend status feed url like previous version did.

    @ gruzin;
and I fall for it :(
