Just got myself a nice and surprisingly cheap USB 3.5 G modem (which can be upfraded to 3.75G). What makes this modem more interesting is, it comes with built in GPS chip. And all that only for 675.000 IDR (that's around 67 US$).
Now the modem function works out of the box, no need special hack or file editing, just plug it and let network manager does its magic. As shown in this picture below.

That's the good news, now the bad news is Ubuntu can not automatically detect its GPS unit. I've tried several methods but still no go and it's frustating. The best I could get is gpsman (GPS Manager) says it's online along with many error messages I don't know how to fix. I've tried it on Vista machine and it works (so there's no hardware issue), it even works charmingly with Garmin Mobile PC. Now I know where I am on Earth :)
I saw many tutorials on using GPS on Ubuntu but most of them are for GPS only, not a modem+GPS device like mine.
Are there some one out there know how? I really hate dual-booting Vista just to get a GPS to work.

Hai... adakah yang di setting khusus untuk berinternet dengan modem 881u + ubuntu 9.04
tool khusus? karena saya berulang kali tidak berhasil
membuat wvdial pun juga gagal
bisa bantu saya?

tidak berhasil konek ato modem tidak dideteksi?
dari pengalaman saya tidak ada setting khusus mas David.
network manager langsung mengenali modem ini, terus masukin setting sesuai penyedia internet provider anda.
klik kanan network manager (biasanya sudah muncul di tray icon), edit connection, terus ke mobile broadband, terus Add dan buat new connection dengan setingan ISP.
Nah setelah saya ulangi instalasi, modem sierra 881u terditeksi...
Setting sesuai dengan provider, tp saat pertama kali konek langsung diskonek sendiri...
lalu tunggu diteksi lagi, muncul saya konekkan lagi tp auto diskonek...
lalu saya coba menggunakan sierra 875u ... konek dan berhasil
kira kira kenapa ya 881u saya diskonek sendiri?
